Albert Pujols underwent elbow surgery Monday, but he did not have the Tommy John procedure.
The surgery, which was performed by Cardinals team physician Dr. George Paletta, included decompression and transposition of the ulnar nerve. Pujols has been a Tommy John candidate for several years now, but the ligament damage in his elbow has never impacted his game offensively. The surgery he underwent today won't affect his availability for spring training.
Hopefully this will keep TJ surgery on hold for a few more years. His elbow is certainly not hurting his offense as he should be well on his way to a second MVP. That is if he isn't robbed again by Ryan Howard. Let's hope writer's will be smarter this year.
