Cardinals More Pitching On The Way?

Chris Carpenter (elbow) threw 41 pitches Saturday in his most recent simulated game.
Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said Carpenter "had good command and felt good." Barring setbacks, Carpenter could begin a rehab assignment in three or four weeks and join the Cardinals in late July.

Brad Thompson, out since April 23 with right elbow inflammation, threw 30 pitches in a simulated game Saturday.
Thompson will likely spend a couple of weeks on a rehab assignment in the minors before becoming a candidate to join the Cardinals.
The Cards now sit just 2.5 games back of the best team in baseball (Cubs) and now get some good news regarding two important pitchers. Carpenter is, well, good when he is on and we know we he can do. Thompson is an important guy because he is a long reliever and spot starter. If the Cards can stay in this race and it looks like they will, getting Carpenter will be a huge boost to this team. It would be like getting someone in a trade. Hope Carp and Brad have great recoveries and make the Cubs/Cards rivalry come to the forefront because most of us are tired of the Red Sox/Yanks.

Re: More Pitching On The Way?

Matt Clement (shoulder) was exceptional in his first rehab start with Single-A Palm Beach, surrendering one hit and no walks over six scoreless innings.
He struck out five. Clement will need to be equally sharp in the coming weeks if he hopes to crack the Cardinals' rotation. He's not overtaking Todd Wellemeyer, so he needs Joel Pineiro to experience a few more setbacks.
Great start to a comeback from Clement!! Cards could have a lot of pitching come July with not a single trade being made to get it.
