    Cardinals Izzy Blows It Again

Isringhausen blew his fifth save tonight against the Brew Crew. He just blew one two days ago against the Rockies. He is now 1-4 with a ERA over seven. The Cards need someone else to take the pressure off Izzy. He has 11 saves already though. Cards should be concerned.

Boy 5th save and I was banging my head against the wall with Jonathan Papelbon blowing his 2nd save in a row.

His ERA is 7.47!!!!!! Let Ron Villone close!

No Villone but let Franklin try and close a game. You have to pace Izzy.

Izzy is done, we need Reyes or Mcllellan to close. It would be nice to see if Reyes could be groomed as a closer since he's been struggleing as a starter. Mclellan could spend a year as a closer, but he should be in the rotation next season. I'm tired of seeing Izzy though, I think his time is over.

yeah, you have to wonder how much he has left in the tank. he's been all kinds of banged up over the recent past and you wonder how much that has taken a toll on his body.

Guys lets not forget he has 11 saves. They just need to take it easy with him.

    Re: Izzy Blows It Again

Jason Isringhausen admitted after Friday's game that he might need some time out of the closer's role.
Izzy says he's healthy and his velocity has been fine, but he's clearly lost some confidence. "I'm just getting sick of embarrassing myself and letting my team down," Isringhausen said. The Cardinals believe poor mechanics has led to the right-hander's control problems. The answer for now is probably for him to take a few days off and throw in the pen a couple of times to try to work through the issue. Ryan Franklin would probably close in his place.
    Exactly

La Russa said the closing duties will be split between Ryan Franklin and Russ Springer, and that he wouldn't shy from using a left-hander in the role against certain lineups.

Yeah, he found a good niche as a regular reliever. He doesn't strike people out, so it'll be an adventure for fans.

I think I'm with brownie on this, if they're considering Springer, they should also consider Villone. He's been nasty this season. What the hell, right?

Yeah he does which goes to show he is being used too much. Franklin came in yesterday and got the save. Izzy does not have to be used every save situation which he had been. Its a long season and Izzy is getting old. Izzy leads the league in saves by the way.
