I hope you are right. The reports I've read have stated that his velocity has dropped a lot. If that is true, then I don't see how he can be very effective. Clement was good because he could throw some serious heat.

yep, he needed that speed differential between his fastball and his slider. His slider was really good, but throwing his fastball at 94 made his mid 80's slider look filthier than it actually was. He also relied on location, and a lot of times he just couldnt locate his fastball and his slider would usually drop out of the zone. same with his other pitches.

If his fastball is gone, he's not going to be nearly the pitcher he once was.

Clement relied not only on velocity, but also heavy sinking movement of his fastball. Or maybe I'm confusing his regular fastball with his sinker, but nevertheless his sinker used to be his out pitch.

Mulder was ricked in his rehab start. Pitched 3 2/3 innings 7 ER's 9 H's and 3 of the hits were HR's.

    OUCH!!

I know it's bad, but I can't help but laugh sometimes at how these ex-A's pitchers are doing. Mulder is definately not the worst though. Zito gets that honour.

The only difference is that Zito is just sucking and Mulder is coming off a big injury and trying to get back to 100%.

the contract is a huge difference too. lol You are right though, it has to be difficult coming back from an injury like that.

Really? His innings pitched indicate otherwise.

    Re: Mark Mulder....

Mark Mulder (shoulder) was roughed up again on Monday, allowing seven runs in six innings for Triple-A Memphis.
He's given up 16 runs in 9 2/3 innings in his two starts for Memphis. Overall, he's allowed 33 hits, walked 10 and struck out 12 in 25 2/3 innings on his rehab assignment. There's little reason to think he'll be an asset for the Cardinals when he's put back into the rotation.
I don't see him getting back to the show with these numbers. Keep him in the minors until he proves he can go deep into games and not give up runs.

yep... he still needs time in the minors. The Cards don't need him right now anyways, the rotation is doing better than anyone could have imagined without him.
