The Cardinals have expressed interest in free agents Carlos Silva and Kyle Lohse but have not made offers. Silva, considered the top name in a depressed market, will probably seek a five-year deal worth at least $10 million annually. Lohse may be only a slightly less expensive alternative.
The Cards would be dumb to sign any of these two. Silva and Lohse are way too expensive for #4 and 5 guys. Someone will be dumb enough to give these guys the money but it shouldn't be the Cards. Haren has been rumored to be on the block. The Cards traded Haren to the A's for Mulder back in '04. Maybe they could package something with Duncan and some pitching. Rolen is on the block so they could possibly get some pitching that way or trade Duncan for Noah Lowry which rotoworld and myself have suggested. Maybe even get Prior from the hated Cubs if he is non-tendered. Trades are the way to go for the Cards.
