Cardinals acquired RHP Joel Pineiro and cash considerations from the Red Sox for a player to be named later.

The Red Sox were surprised when Pineiro accepted a Triple-A assignment after the team booted him from the roster. Obviously, they still felt they had no further use for him. The Cardinals could try him as a starter and bump both Mike Maroth and Brad Thompson to the pen, with Anthony Reyes already expected to move into the rotation this week. ...but also another possible bad one. Talk about a patchwork rotation. Piniero will probably slide right in there despite pitching mediocre ball, that's the sad part...how the hell was this team a WS champ again?

Extremely disappointed in Jocketty. They just took 3 of 4 from the Brewers to pull within 6 games and this is the best they could do? Maroth now Pineiro? This helps nothing and might actually make it worse!
