Daniel Berk, of St.Louis.Cardinals.MLB.com, reports St. Louis Cardinals SP Chris Carpenter (elbow) threw all of his pitches during a warm-up session before the team's game Saturday, June 23. Carpenter said he felt good and is ready to throw again sometime this week. He will meet with team doctor George Paletta and begin to plan a schedule for his return when the team arrives in New York Monday, June 25, for a four-game series with the New York Mets.

This is a good sign for the Cardinals, with Looper on the mend and the addition of Maroth the Cards could have a serious 3-some in there pitching staff. The bad thing is it looks like Mark Mulder just may be done for the season.

If Maroth pitched like he did last night, they don't need Mulder. Getting Carpenter back is just like gettng someone via trade. A huge boost. Now if only they could get Crawford.

    Re: Carpenter feeling good

Chris Carpenter pitched three scoreless innings Sunday in his second rehab start for Single-A Palm Beach.
Carpenter allowed two hits, walked one and struck out two while throwing 39 pitches. It seems like a nice step forward from a poor first outing. Still, that he threw only 39 pitches suggests that he's going to need to make at least two more starts in the minors.
Cards are only 7.5 games back and with Carpenter, Edmonds and Eckstein coming back, the still have a chance to come back and get in this thing. Remember the Astros last year and their surge.

Adding a healthy Carpenter back to this rotation would be a huge boost to the Cardinals chances in the 2nd half.
