Thread: Ankiel stays put

    Cardinals Ankiel stays put

Tony La Russa said it would be "fun" to promote outfielder Rick Ankiel and give him a two-week whirl in the majors while center fielder Jim Edmonds is on the disabled list. But fun isn't always practical.

Ankiel had two hits, including a double, to raise his average to .286 in Memphis' loss Monday, and he has 19 home runs for the Class AAA affiliate.

Maybe LaRussa can use him as a starter in the rotation every 5th day too, being an ex-starting pitcher and all... j/k.. I know how it feels when your team is riddled with injuries. Just couildn't help myself there.

Ankiel will see action at the big league level, something I said on this forum years ago and was mocked and laughed at. I will be laughing last

19 homers is pretty solid for AAA up to this point in the season, good for him that he stuck with baseball and hopefully he can complete the final step on his comeback.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

Well that certainly doesn't help...where'd you get his stats?

I saw them the other day on rotoworld. Nevermind I was wrong.

Rick Ankiel went 4-for-5 with three solo homers Saturday for Triple-A Memphis.
Ankiel is up to 19 homers in 213 at-bats this season, though that comes with just a .317 on-base percentage. The Cardinals may try him as a bench player later this year, but they'd rather see him get regular at-bats for now.

Three homers!...damn, he's better off than I thought. That's impressive at any level.

Go here. His OBP/SLG/OPS is .323/.608/.932. Not too bad.
