What are the Cards looking for?

Other than the Soriano mention, what are the Cards going after for the deadline. This team has made some major deals before the deadline in recent years. Will there be another one this season?

If so, who do you guys think they will be going after?

They're not going to win with the pitching they have. So pitching.

You think so? Are you saying they are not going to win the division, or they are not going to go far in the playoffs?

They have enough to win the division, it's better than the reds' pitching and Pujols alone is better than what Houston has for offense. They're just not going far in the postseason. You just can't depend on Mulder, Marquis, and/or Jeff Suppan at this point. Isringhausen is also a liability.

Cards are looking at Abreu and Burrell as well. They still need that left fielder despite their ptiching woes. Carpenter and Reyes are a nice combo but Wainwright needs to be in that rotation too.

I agree, Wainwright would be a nice addition to the rotation without a doubt. Are they even considering it yet?

they better not acquire Benson, Lidle or Lopez. I'll try to end my life if that happens.

whats the point of adding another bat to a lineup thats still considered one of the best in the NL, they need pitching, pitching should be there number 1 priority then later they can add a bat.

They still need a bat regardless but you are right, they do need pitching. But to compete in the playoffs, they will need that bat.

reefer dont get me wrong they need a bat, but pitching wins in the playoffs not a bat, they already have pujols, edmonds, rolen, eckstein and ect, they should stress pitching as there number 1 priority.

Yep a bat would be nice, but the pitching is where its at. Anyone know Mulder's status?

I agree with GF83 here too. They already have a nice lineup. Is it Mets nice? In my opinion its not. But it is still pretty good. The Cards have always been able to pull off a big deal near the deadline, but time is running short. Will they get it?

Jocketty will do something. He has always been quite on his deals and plus the media doesn't hound the Cards like the Yanks and Red Sox.

The Cardinals have had conversations with the Phillies about left-handers Rheal Cormier and Aaron Fultz.
Both should be available. The Cardinals have also discussed Jon Lieber and Cory Lidle with the Phillies, but it's unlikely they'll be able to acquire either starter.
Cards need an arm in that bullpen so this makes sense.

Cards make out like bandits on this one. They upgraded both defensively and offensively on this one. Now Miles will be the utility IFer which is pretty good for the Cards.
