MIAMI -- Cardinals starter Sidney Ponson, who left Sunday's game against the Marlins after three innings because of right elbow discomfort, will be examined by the team's orthopedist, Dr. George Paletta, in St. Louis on Monday.
Ponson shrugged off the injury after the Cardinals' 9-1 victory.
"We'll see the doctor," he said, "but right now I'm looking forward to making my next start on Saturday."
Ponson's sentiment was relayed to manager Tony La Russa, but he wasn't so sure. "I'll be more excited if Dr. Paletta tells me there's nothing to worry about," he said. "If you've got an elbow that barks, it's something we're concerned about."
