Spivey DFA

Second baseman Junior Spivey was designated for assignment today by the Cardinals and will report to Class AAA Memphis unless he is claimed off waivers by another major-league team. That's an unlikely development because of his $1.2 million salary and poor spring performance.

Spivey is accepting the assignment to Memphis and hopes to straighten himself out there after batting .147 and fielding poorly in spring training.

All seriousness, I think this doesn't matter and can only be good news for the Cards. They can concentrate on playing the right players for the job. Reds, take notes.
