Re: Biggest Boners of 2011
While there is no requirement that they give warnings before they just throw a hand up and eject someone, this was just a little too quick. The quick trigger is why Welke is being criticized about the “game situation”. Kershaw was ahead in the count and this pitch just grazed Parra’s elbow inside; even Parra didn’t glare or act “offended”. Pitchers HAVE to be able to pitch inside regardless of what has taken place a day before or a minute before a particular pitch. Welke was WRONG period!
Re: Biggest Boners of 2011
That was a horseshit call by the ump. If you're going to throw out a pitcher without warning, it better be for a more obvious plunking than a pitch inside that grazes the elbow.

At least the league didn't make the same boner, no suspension for Kershaw.

Falling under the category of analysts I hate:

"He watched that one for a long, long time."
"I don't blame him!"
Fucking asshole.
Re: Biggest Boners of 2011
Technically he is not a ML player right now he was playing in the Independent North American League for the Edmonton Capitals this season, but since he last played in the ML for the Rays there was a small blurb about it in our local paper today. Ex-bench player Willy Aybar was in his native country of the Dominican Republic playing for the Licey Tigers in Winter League. He was arrested for wife beating, stiffing a Strip club on a bill and for resisting arrest and assault on a police officer and was ordered to spend 3 months in jail while awaiting trial.
Reports are that he had also been arrested in January, spending 3 months in jail in the DR after he sent his wife to an intensive care ward. He signed with the Canadian team just weeks after his release because he couldn’t get a US visa. Might be the reason why he didn’t get a deal in the majors. Supposedly, his wife has recanted, but prosecutors had asked a judge to continue regardless due to being a repeat offender. He had been in therapy but abandoned the program a few days before this most recent incident.
This definitely qualifies him for bonehead consideration.
