Police in the Dominican Republic are seeking Ambiorix Burgos after an SUV they believe he was driving slammed into two women, killing them.
This comes three weeks after Burgos was arrested for allegedly beating up his girlfriend. A relative of Burgos, Edwin Silvestre Sanchez, claimed he was behind the wheel during the alleged hit-and-run, but police have several witnesses claiming that it was Burgos driving. "We are extremely disturbed by the reports regarding the player's potential involvement in the hit-and-run accident that unfortunately killed two women in the Dominican Republic," the Mets said in a statement. "We take this matter very seriously and have begun an internal investigation to ascertain the facts. Our thoughts and sympathies are with the families of the victims."

Ambiorix Burgos turned himself in Tuesday night, a week after police say he was involved in a hit-and-run accident that killed two women.
It's also come to light that the mother of one of the two victims accused Burgos of intentionally running her daughter over because she refused to go out with him. Eudosia Ruane, mother of 29-year-old Angely Fana, told The Associated Press she filed a report with police alleging homicide. Burgos has been formally accused of abandoning the victims and fleeing, charges that can carry six months to two years in prison.
