    I remember reading tons of predictions where people were splooging over the additions of Beckett and Lowell, too many in fact. Quite a number of them were predicting Josh Beckett to be Cy Young!

    Rob Neyer, Jim Caple, Eric Neel, Gary Gillette, Sean McAdam, Mike Greenberg all picked the Red Sox to win the division. Kurkjian, Karabell, Schwarz, Simon, Callis all picked the Red Sox to win the wild card. Hence, a third place finish would be considered a major disappointment! Very few thought that Boston was "weak".

    The Red Sox traded for Josh Beckett, the so-called Yankee killer, and the East Coast media pundits proceeded to drop the Red Sox from a 2nd place finish in 2005 and project them as a "weak" team, likely finishing 3rd, behind Toronto? Not in this country.

    I was more talking about the fans than the pundits. I know on the forums I was on, Toronto was the sleeper and the Sox just got a year older and made lateral moves outside of Beckett.

    Toronto had Glaus, Ryan, and Burnett.
