Felix with his 4th K of the day. Cain is over 100 pitches and is probably done.

    1-0 Fresno.

There was a hit that should've been scored an error on Morse, which was the eventual run. Should be an unearned run, but it won't be. Definetely not Felix's best start, he just walked his fourth batter.

A 2nd consecutive walk for Felix. This is frusturating. He has absolutely no control today. Felix will be done pretty soon. Bases are loaded.

    Rainiers blank 51s
    June 10, 2005

Right-handed phenom Felix Hernandez recorded eight strikeouts in 5 1/3 scoreless innings as Tacoma blanked the Las Vegas 51s, 4-0, on Thursday night.

The 19-year-old flame-thrower issued five walks and had runners in scoring position in five of his six innings, but managed to escape each jam. Hernandez struck out Norihiro Nakamura twice to end innings and also got him to ground out to strand a runner at second. Hernandez (7-4) has 71 strikeouts in 67 2/3 innings.

Chris Buglovsky relieved Hernandez and allowed one hit in 1 2/3 innings. Sean Green and Masao Kida each pitched a scoreless inning, though Kida allowed consecutive singles to start the ninth before retiring three straight batters to end the game.

The Rainiers scratched out single runs in each of the first two innings off Las Vegas starter Ryan Rupe (2-3). Jamal Strong led off with a single and stole second before scoring on a single by Shin-Soo Choo in the first. Miguel Olivo singled, stole second and third, and scored on a base hit by Hunter Brown in the second.

Yuniesky Betancourt singled home Jose Lopez to bump the lead to 3-0 in the fourth.

Rupe permitted three runs on seven hits with three walks and five strikeouts in five innings.

Tacoma added a run in the eighth off reliever Steve Schmoll. Again, the Rainiers played small ball as Betancourt singled and stole second and came around on another base hit by Strong. -- Tim Leonard/MLB.com

    Rainiers keep streaking
    June 14, 2005

Felix Hernandez pitched another gem, limiting Portland to three hits over six scoreless innings as the Rainiers posted a 2-0 victory on Tuesday afternoon.

The win was Tacoma's season-high seventh straight.

Hernandez (8-4) allowed just three singles and four walks while striking out seven. He retired the side in order just once, but allowed only one base runner past second and extended his scoreless streak to 15 1/3 innings.

In his last five starts, the 19-year-old right-hander is 3-1 with a 1.23 ERA, fanning 36 in 29 1/3 innings.

Sean Green and Masao Kida finished off the Rainiers' Pacific Coast League-leading eighth shutout with three hitless innings. Kida pitched the ninth for his seventh save.

Ryan Christianson accounted for Tacoma's offense with a two-run homer, his fifth, in the sixth inning off reliever Brian Sweeney (4-5). Sweeney come on after starter Tim Redding pitched four scoreless innings.

Portland did not get a hit after Wilson Valdez, Ben Johnson and Jon Knott had consecutive singles in the third inning. --Daren Smith/MLB.com

No. Felix brings more heat than either, his change will only be rivaled by Johan's, throw in a nasty curve ball, and a developing slider and he has much better stuff than both. But, I'm talking about his ceiling here.
