    2012 Seattle Season Thread

The M's have been very solid in their first 7 games this season.

Offensively, they have been vastly improved but that's only because of the allergies to runs last season.

Vargas and Fernandez will have started 2/3rds of their first 9 games after tomorrow and the home opener.

    Vargas vs Holland tomorrow

Rangers win 5-3 on the strong pitching of Holland. Ramirez imploded in the 7th inning allowing 2 key runs on back to back hits.

Oakland won the home opener when Felix hit a rough patch early. This will happen when you face the same team 3 times within 2 weeks.

Noesi vs Milone today at the Safe.

Noesi was rocked by the Rangers in his M's Debut. Milone was brilliant in his 1st start.

Today its the rubber match of A's-M's.

Blake Blevan gets the start for the M's, he was a hard luck loser vs the Rangers (losing 1-0)

The A's will counter with Graham Godfrey, who went 6 IP and allowed 2 ER, 6 H, while striking out 1.

Not sure what to expect in this pitching matchup, Montero did show signs of life last night.

    I predict M's win 4-2.

Brendan Ryan and Justin Smoak both hit homers. Blake Bleavan allowed 3 ER in 7 IP.

M's win 5-3 and improve to 6-5 and remains in 2nd place.

Milwood faces his former team, Cleveland.

Masterson gets the ball vs the M's.

And no more A's for two months. There go the easy wins.

According to Ben Nicholson Smith of MLB Trade Rumors, the Mariners have signed Dominican outfielder Hersin Martinez to a $1.1 million contract.
Martinez won the Dominican Prospect League's Home Run Derby by smashing 16 homers -- five consecutively -- with one particular blast reaching a distance of 507 feet. The 17-year-old is very raw and needs to develop a more consistent batting stroke, but he's a nice get for the Mariners nonetheless. Martinez is likely to get his pro career started later this summer in a rookie league.
Looks like the Mariners have joined the club of signing 17 year old DR guys.

Frustrating game to watch. Up by seven runs in the fourth, the mariners allow seven in the fifth, end route to a 9-8 loss.

Figgins and Ichiro homered in the 1st, while Jason Vargas allowed one run over seven innings.

M's win 4-1 in front of the smallest Safeco crowd ever. They improve to 7-6 this season.

That 8th in for Felix was unreal. Bases loaded, 1 out, 1-0 game, he threw 120+ pitches to that point. Ks the next 2 batters. Was amazing. Loved the emotion after too! You knew he was dealing.

That's the way Felix is all the time when he pitches. Very competitive, emotional, and a great leader.
