Twenty-three-year-old Jon Lockwood of the Class A Everett Aqua Sox was named the Mariners' Minor League Player of the Week for July 3-9. Because of his dominating performances so far this season, Lockwood has earned a ticket to Wisconsin to join the Timber Rattlers.

Last week, Lockwood was 1-0 in nine innings pitched in three games, all in relief, giving up only one base hit and one walk while striking out 13.

While working out of the bullpen in a long-relief role, he has put together some staggering numbers. He is 2-0 on the season with a 0.00 ERA in 16 innings in five appearances, giving up only three hits. He also leads the team in strikeouts with 19.

"He's got a good arm and a nice slider," said Mariners director of Minor League operations Greg Hunter. "He's a little old for Everett, so we're excited to see him perform like he has and move up to the next level."
