Mariners Figgins reportedly close to signing with M's

So this makes room for the possibility of Adrian moving on. Not a bad replacement at all. And if Beltre does accept arbitration, Figgins is versatile enough to move somewhere else. I like this for the M's. Plus it means the Cubs wouldn't be getting him.

They got a good deal. Even if he doesn't draw 100 walks again, a career .290 hitter and .360 on-base in the leadoff or 2-hole is tough to replace. Plus, he doesn't swing for the fences when he shouldn't, so he should have no problem hitting at Safeco.

Supposedly, they're waiting until Monday to see if Beltre accepts arbitration.

Doesn't hurt to have both, they have a lot of holes for a supposed "decent" team.

Ichiro + Figgins = lots of steals

Not exactly. If, say, Ichiro gets on base, Figgins doesn't get the chance to steal if he reaches base due to the difficulty of executing the double steal.

    Ichiro-Figgins > Ichiro-Anyone in 2009.

Good signing if they can get a middle of the order bat to go with it.

I still think it would be very nice for this team to keep Beltre as well. Hopefully this all works out for them.

I agree, you still need to spell Branyan from being the big bat somehow. But Figgins is nothing to be ashamed of for sure. Dude canflat out get it done.
