Probably good news for the Mariners as they get to save 2 years of Johjima and $16 million. However, that probably means that Rob Johnson is your starting catcher.

Not necessarily the best news they could have received after trading Jeff Clement to the Pirates in the Ian Snell deal. Clement isn't a great catcher, but he might be better than Rob Johnson.

While the team denies there was a buyout, something was probably up.
Johnson is a good defensive catcher but has no stick.
Adam Moore can be good offensively but hes nothing to write home about.
Joh should have never been resigned to begin with so it all works out.
Clement would have been a nice DH/1B but defensively he wasn't on Moore's level.
