Jakubauskas makes decision difficult | Mariners.com: News

Right-hander Chris Jakubauskas, a virtual unknown when camp opened six weeks ago, continued to make a strong pitch for inclusion on the Mariners' 12-man pitching staff, holding the Indians to one run over five innings in Seattle's 12-4 Cactus League romp at Goodyear Ballpark.

"Jak was very good, again," manager Don Wakamatsu said. "Everything I have seen this spring is very, very impressive. The biggest thing for me is that his pitches have good movement, and when he keeps the ball down, he's very effective."

The 30-year-old former Independent League pitcher lowered his ERA to 2.08.
This isn't the first time that a independent league pitcher got his wheels on track for Seattle. George Sherill was also a independent leaguer before catching on with the M's

Triunfel to have broken fibula examined | Mariners.com: News

OAKLAND -- Mariners prospect Carlos Triunfel, who broke his left fibula while sliding into second base on Friday night in Montgomery, Ala., will be examined by Mariners medical director Ed Khalfayan in Seattle.

"We don't know the extent of the injury, whether or not he would need surgery," Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu said prior to Saturday afternoon's game against the Athletics. "Hopefully, he doesn't, but it could be six to eight weeks."
This is unfortunate for him to get hurt now. He had a good spring and was starting to get things together.
