Ichiro improving, still expected back next week - MLB - Yahoo! Sports

MINNEAPOLIS (AP)—Seattle Mariners star Ichiro Suzuki has been cleared to begin playing in his comeback from a bleeding ulcer that caused severe fatigue.

Suzuki will be the designated hitter in an extended spring training game with minor leaguers in Arizona on Thursday. Manager Don Wakamatsu said before Wednesday’s game at Minnesota that Suzuki will play a total of three games before being re-evaluated. He’ll either join the Mariners in Oakland this weekend or travel straight to Seattle.

Seattle’s leadoff hitter and right fielder remains on track to be activated from the disabled list next Wednesday. Wakamatsu said Suzuki’s blood tests came back clear and his condition is improving. This is his first time on the DL since arriving in the majors in 2001.
Can he come back now? Would stabilize the top of the order.

Mariners win the game 2-0 with 8 strong innings from Jarrod Washburn

I caught most of the game before work. I think the Twins Fans for letting me catch up with their thread during games.

Morrow needs more work. Hes mentally ready for this job, but physically I'm not sure.

Ichiro gets seven hits in Minors action | Mariners.com: News

MINNEAPOLIS -- Mariners right fielder Ichiro Suzuki was the leadoff hitter for both teams in a five-inning Rookie League intrasquad game on Thursday afternoon in Peoria, Ariz.

He went 7-for-10 with two triples and one double.
I think he's going to be okay.

The streak ended last night against Liriano and the Twins at 27. Pretty impressive nonetheless.

Mariners Team Report - MLB - Yahoo! Sports

And for four weeks, he was reasonably certain that Ackley was the right guy. Seattle, drafting second Tuesday, took Ackley, the first three-time All-America ever to play for the Tar Heels.

“There were a couple of other guys that were in the mix,” McNamara said. “He stood out for us.”

There had been talk in recent days that money might force the Mariners to change their minds—Ackley is represented by Scott Boras, which almost always means a long and expensive negotiation.

But McNamara brought general manager Jack Zduriencik to see Ackley play awhile ago, and both men agreed Ackley was the right choice.

Although he played first base for most of his junior year, the Mariners project Ackley as a center fielder, the position he played as a freshman and sophomore.
I think this turned out to be a blessing that the Nats took Strasburgh. While it would have been nice. We need bats more than pitching (barely)

    Mariners acquire outfielder Langerhans

LOS ANGELES -- The banged-up Mariners acquired an outfielder on Sunday that could provide the kind of defensive skills lost in the season-ending knee injury to Endy Chavez nearly two weeks ago.

In a trade that has been discussed for the past several days, general manager Jack Zduriencik announced that he had traded Mike Morse to the Nationals for left-handed-hitting outfielder Ryan Langerhans.
I don't get this deal because Morse could basically be what Chavez is now. Other than Langerhans having more pop than those 2 would be the only reason why I see this deal happening.

    • LF Wladimir Balentien(notes) was designated for assignment Saturday. The club grew tired of waiting to see if his bat would come around. He was hitting .213 with four homers at the time of the demotion.

Michael Saunders was called up from Tacoma but he no different from Langerhans, from what I saw at Tacoma and Seattle.

Ichiro with the Walk-Off HR on Mo Rivera. 2nd straight walk-off hit.

He had 4 before those two games total.
