    Mariners Griffey's Return Is Close

MLB.com reports that the Mariners "are nearing agreement on a one-year contract" with Ken Griffey Jr.
Griffey left Seattle as an MVP-caliber center fielder, but returns nearly a decade later as a 39-year-old shell of his former self who's probably best suited to be a part-time designated hitter. He's still a capable bat against right-handed pitching and might fill a few more seats at Safeco Field, making him a better choice than the Mariners' other rumored target, Garret Anderson.
Reports say that Griffey is in great shape after having his knees cleaned out and has lost weight to take pressure off those knees. It will be nice to see Griffey end his career in Seattle where he has a chance to be productive. He can help in RF and DH and more importantly put some asses in the seats. His return should pay for itself.

They were putting asses in the seats despite the 100 loss season. I never wanted Griffey to leave in the damn 1st place.
