    A Slap In The Face?

Manager John McLaren announced Wednesday that Erik Bedard will be the Mariners' Opening Day starter.
Despite the presence of Felix Hernandez, Bedard getting the Opening Day nod is no surprise. With Johan Santana now in the NL, Bedard has a strong argument for being the AL's top fantasy pitcher this season.
I personally think this is a slap in King Felix's face. Felix is the homegrown phenom, not Bedard. This is Felix's 4th season and has shown he is the ace of this team. I'm know its not a big deal but if I were Felix, I would be a little pissed off!

I have to agree with you here. Bedard is a great pitcher but Felix has been their ace for a couple years now and I don't like this.
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

Bedard-Felix is a great one-two punch regardless of which order you put them in.

I went out, did a long toss, came in and said, 'I'll pitch, I want it, I want to do it.' And it ended up working out." -Josh Beckett

Just read my blog for my thoughts. People King Felix is just freaking 21-22 years old, he has at least 10-12 years to earn this honor.

Compared to Bedard he's earned it since has actually thrown a pitch in a M's uniform.

Felix has pitched a lot of innings for a young guy...for his sake, I hope they try to keep the innings down to reasonable amount. He's very young and if he stays healthy, then he could pitch for a very long time.

I don't know. I don't think it matters as much as people make it out to be. I think that Felix deserves respect, but at the same time, I don't think fans or players can complain about him being #2 to Bedard. Because if King Felix got the start, fans would complain about "How can you give up so much for a guy who won't even start on opening day?". Plus, maybe its just a ploy to bring even more fans out to see their newest acquisition?

Bedard hasn't really done anything in a Mariner uniform to get this honor. What was his Spring training ERA? like 9?
