After a subpar 2005 season, Curt Schilling seems to have recaptured his dominant form.
Schilling looks to give the Boston Red Sox another strong outing when they open a four-game series with the Seattle Mariners on Friday at Fenway Park.
Schilling went 8-8 with a 5.69 ERA -- his highest since making just five appearances in 1989 -- while recovering from offseason ankle surgery last year and didn't earn his second win until July. This season, however, Schilling has won his first two starts, including Saturday's 2-1 victory over Baltimore.......
.....He will face Seattle's Jamie Moyer, who is 0-1 with a 4.38 ERA through his first two outings of the season. The 43-year-old left-hander gave up three runs and six hits in 5 2-3 innings of Saturday's 3-0 loss to Barry Zito and the Oakland Athletics.
Moyer is 6-9 with a 6.58 ERA in 20 career appearances, including 18 starts, against the Red Sox. It's his worst ERA against any American League team.
Seattle (5-5) has won two straight since a four-game losing streak, including Thursday's 9-5 victory over the Cleveland Indians. Ichiro Suzuki and Jose Lopez each hit two-run homers for the Mariners, who came back from an early 4-0 deficit.
Ichiro is 4-for-7 over the last two games following an 0-for-18 slump.
