Scott Eyre has been offered a multi year deal but no word yet from Eyre. I hope the Giants went all out to get him because the Giants wouldn't have come close to the record they had without this man. Pretty scary right? Plus we need to get him just so no other teams will.

Eyre's a very valuable lefty, but the Giants will dump him when he hits a wall anyway like they've done with former key middle relievers Felix, Zerbe, Christiansen, Embree, etc.

That's what you do with pitchers who don't perform, you get rid of them. Christiansen was not liekd throughout the organization and he was not liking there either.

Yeah I rather have Grudz for half that money but Durham did well last year and Vizquel made him a lot better in the field.

Well, we lost out on Scott Eyre to the Cubs but we got back two draft picks in 2006. So hey it could be worse.

Former Giant Brian Dallimore signed a minor league deal with the Brewers. I liked Dallimore and was rooting for him to make it somewhere. He had good numbers in the minors and I wish him the best.

now you get a 3rd round pick instead of a 2nd round pick from the Cu-hubs since they just signed Howry away from the Indians in addition to the supplemental pick after 1st round. Howry is values higher than Eyre according to the way MLB does it. Neither team gets the Cu-hubs 1st round pick because it falls in the upper half (13th).

    Hard after Morris again?

SAN FRANCISCO — Rebuffed in their efforts to sign Esteban Loaiza, the Giants are expected to intensify their pursuit of right-hander Matt Morris.

But with the market for starting pitching slow to develop, Giants GM Brian Sabean said he probably would turn his immediate attention to the bullpen.

"We went as far as we thought was reasonable on Loaiza, and we're committed to straighten out our pitching," Sabean said. "But it might not be as simple as (signing) a starter first. We may have to use our resources first in the bullpen."

In replacing Scott Eyre, Sabean said he wouldn't limit himself to a left-hander. He is looking for a quality short reliever "capable of pitching an entire inning." But with several teams looking for late-inning relief, even top quality set-up men such as Tom Gordon are being offered closer-type money.

And the starters aren't going to come cheap, either.

Morris' agent, Barry Axelrod, said he considers his client a more valuable commodity than Loaiza, who turned down the Giants' overtures to sign a three-year, $21 million contract with the A's on Monday.

"I'd expect Matt to be paid more than Loaiza," Axelrod said.

Sabean contacted Axelrod over the Thanksgiving holiday. Axelrod characterized the Giants as one of the most aggressive teams but wouldn't say whether an offer was on the table.

With the market inching higher, Axelrod doesn't intend to act quickly.

"Two other teams emerged over the weekend," said Axelrod, who put the number of seriously interested teams at five or six. "Other teams have given us indications of their

interest as well. We're not trying to drag our feet, but if you have this many parties interested, it behooves a free agent to take his time."

The Dodgers reportedly are among the teams to make a serious overture to Morris, setting up a potentially intriguing faceoff between Sabean and former top lieutenant Ned Colletti.

Starting pitching remains the top priority for Sabean, who also must find a left-handed first baseman or outfielder and a backup catcher despite limited means.

It's becoming clear that Brett Tomko is not in the Giants' plans. Tomko's agent, Joe Longo, said he only heard from the Giants once this offseason — and that conversation was with Colletti before he left for the Dodgers.

Longo said he has talked terms on one-year contracts with two teams, and six others have expressed sincere interest.

"Brett is open to the Giants, he wants to win badly and he feels that is a possibility there," Longo said. "But we haven't heard from them. We're getting interest from other teams and it's looking like we'll have to go down that road."

The Giants have until Dec. 7 to offer arbitration to their own free agents, a list headed by Tomko and J.T. Snow. A failure to offer arbitration would essentially mean cutting ties with those players, since they could not be re-signed before May 1.
Glad to see we didn't overpay for Loaiza but looks like we might overpay for Morris. Morris is better than Loaiza IMO so who the hell knows.

The Giants have signed former Giant Tim Worrell to a two year deal but can't find out the amount of money being wasted on this 38 yr old. Worrell did very well while he was a member of the Giants especially in 2003 filling in for Robb Nen. I was mad when we let him go but it turned out to be good as he did poorly in Phillie. Hopefully he can comeback and pick up where he left off but I do not like this move.

In other news, Barry Lamar Bonds has decided to play for the U.S. in the World Baseball Classic. This is a terrible move for Bonds as he did next to nothing in 2005 due to injury but now wants to play in a meaningless tournament. Hey Barry, this team was built for you. They didn't go get all these veterans just because Sabean has a boner for old guys. It was to help you in your quest for a ring. Sit back and relax because you will be 42 next year and are chasing records. **** that boring ass Classic and stick to breezing through ST like always.

Morris is worth more than Loaiza. Five straight winning seasons and a career ERA of 3.61 is worth a lot more than Loaiza.

Worrell's contract is two years/$4 million. Not a lot of money which is a relief.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Do you suppose he'll be limping all stiff like, down the base line or when running for a long fly ball? He made ME hurt when watching him at the end of last season (shudder).

Good news, the Giants have traded LaTroy Hawkins for Steve Kline. Kline is a good proven reliever and will help replace Eyre in the pen. Hawkins was to make $3.5 mil but don't know about Kline. He made $2.5 mil last year so it might be the same. Kline, Fassero and Taschner will be our lefties.
