    Plans for the offseason

This year was depressing but a lot of good came from it. We saw that Alou, Vizquel and Durham still have it. We also got to see that Lowry was no fluke. Eyre proved to be one of the best relievers in the game. New guys like Ellison and Niekro proved they can play at the MLB level. Cain showed that he is the real deal and the future ace of this staff. Accardo, Munter and Taschner will ease Sabean minds this offseason about going toget bullpen help. So we have players set in stone.

    1b-Niekro
    2b-Durham
    SS-Vizquel/Chavez
    3b-Feliz/Alfonzo
    LF-Bonds
    RF-Alou
P-Lowry, Munter, Accardo, Taschner, Cain, Walker, Benitez

Schmidt and Winn's options will be picked up or at least should be picked up. Eyre needs to be resigned. Hawkins can go. Tomko is on the border, maybe not picking his option up but signing for a new deal would be best. I would love the Giants to pick up Washburn. Jarrod has a good 3.23 ERA this season which would look good in SBC Park. The man also possesses a ring. Matt Morris would be good too. Alfonzo is likely to be traded as he has asked for this for the second straight season. Sabean has been talking about getting a left handed first baseman with some pop to help Lee at first. This might mean no more Snow and his retirement. Travis Lee and Tony Clark would be good, Clark being better because he goes both ways. Chavez should be our utility IFer and Ellison should be that for the OF. Linden is trade bait. Knoedler is the back up.

Eyre is going to cost at least $3 million according to dork and kuipe and you can bet he will be a highly sought after free agent. Alfonzo has been a huge bust IMO and you're better off going with the youth movement there.

You're best young player is Niekro as well as Lowry.

Eyre will be sought after but if we give him the right deal, he would stay. Eyre is a must have since there are no better left handed relievers out there. And our best young player is Cain. This kid has been amazing. Cain has not allowed more than three runs in his first seven starts. 2-1, 2.33 ERA and a .93 WHIP.

    LF-Bonds
    CF-Winn

    Rotation-Schmidt, Washburn, Cain, Lowry, Tomko
Bullpen-Eyre, Taschner, Walker, Accardo, Munter, Rudy Seanez, Benitez

Alfonzo has to be traded because $7 mil for a bench player is a tad much. A good bench has to be put in place.

1.Winn- .359 BA, .391 OBP, 14 HRS since coming over to SF
    2.Vizquel- 24 SB's
    3.Durham-hit .291 and played 142 games
    4.Bonds-5 hrs in 42 abs
    5.Alou- .319/19/63
6.Feliz- led team in RBI(81) and homers (20)
    7.Niekro/Clark-combined 42 homers
8.Matheny-led all NL catchers in RBI

Had a dream last night that we traded Alfonzo to the M's along with Brad Hennessey for Raul Ibanez. Makes sense. M's need pitching and a second baseman and we need a left handed first baseman with some pop and hits well against lefties and righties. Of course we would have to eat some money but not too much.
