    Giants '09 Minor League Thread

Brand new year with a new outlook on the prospects. The Giants finished with the best minor league system last year and hope to do it again.

In Fresno, Jess Guzman got the start at first and Frandsen started at SS.

In San Jose, Villalona hit a HR and went 2-4 in his first game and Alderson pitched four innings of shutout ball.

Madison Mumgarner was brilliant in his season debut going six strong and giving up just two hits while striking out five.

Buster Posey hit his first homer of the year in yesterday's game.

Jesus Guzman hit his first homerun last night, an opposite field shot, and Frandsen went 2-4. Frandsen was playing SS and Guzman 1B.

Buster Posey went 3-4 with 2 RBI and Angel Villalona went 2-4 with a RBI at San Jose.

Buster Posey went 3-3 last night with a HR and 2 RBI. It was Posey's third homer of the year. He keeps this up and he will be in AA before you know it. Villona went 2-4 with a RBI as he keeps his production going.

Kevin Pucetas went six shutouts innings last night in a no decision at AAA Fresno last night. He gave up four hits, walked two and struck out one.

Pat Misch has yet to give up a run this season. He has finally found success as a reliever.

Angel Villalona went 2-3 last night to raise his average to .415. The most impressive stat, he had his first walk of the season as well.

Steve Hammond (Durham trade) threw six innings last night giving up three runs on three hits with one strikeout at AAA Fresno. He is 1-1 on the year with a 4.11 ERA.

Frandsen went 3-5 and Matt Downs hit a GS last night. Frandsen raised his average to .262 as he still plays SS being the best glove.

Bumgarner improves to 3-0 tonight throwing five innings of one run ball with 5 K's. He owns a 0.56 ERA so far.

Prospect to keep an eye on- Brandon Crawford in San Jose A Ball. He just hit his 5th homer of the year and is batting .389. This SS looks like he is fitting in nicely with Noonan, Villalona and Posey.

Frandsen went 2-5 and raising his average to .294.

Former Seibu Lions infielder Scott McClain has agreed to join the Hiroshima Carp on a one-year deal worth 20 million yen plus performance-related bonuses, the Central League club said Monday. That's $200k for the old man. He wasn't getting a lot of playing time at AAA with Guzman and Bowker getting time at first. Glad to see him get his first MLB homer last year after all those seasons in the minors.

Frandsen went 2-5 with 2 RBI tonight improving his average to .296 and his OBP to .367. We could sure use that at the ML level

Guzman hit a 3 run homer tonight going 2-4 with 4 RBI. That was his 4th HR of the year and is now hitting .293. He also made his first error at first tonight.

Misch has a 0.66 ERA in 13.2 IP as a middle reliever. Glad they finally saw he wasn't a starter.

Bumgarner went 3.2 innings giving up two earned and on six hits. He struck out five.

Thomas Neal (OF) hit for the cycle tonight and is hitting .364 with 4 HRs at San Jose. He is someone to keep an eye on.

Buster Posey hit his 5th HR tonight and hitting .359. Our San Jose team is stacked while there isn't much in AA.

I might see the Fresno team in action when they come to Reno, to play the Aces(D'Backs new AAA team from Tuscon).

    Re: '09 Minor League Thread

Triple-A Fresno's Jesus Guzman went 3-for-5 and hit the third of three straight homers off Tacoma's Luis Munoz on Sunday.
Kevin Frandsen and Adam Witter also took Munoz deep in the first. Guzman is batting .299/.323/.575 with six homers in 87 at-bats. We'll see if that's enough for him to force his way into the Giants' plans. He's been used strictly as a first baseman at Fresno, so he may be viewed as an alternative if Travis Ishikawa continues to struggle
Guzman still has a terrible walk rate and Frandsen now has two homers on the year. Guzman still has a lot of work to do at first so we shouldn't see him anytime soon.

Bumgarner had another bout of bad luck getting the loss while giving up two runs, just one earned. He struck out four over five innings while walking just one. He has a 1.48 ERA on the season.

Frandsen stole a base and went 2-4 to keep his average at .299.

Matt Downs hit his 4th HR of the year for Fresno. Oddly enough he was playing RF.

Angel Villolona went 4-4 with a HR, 2 doubles and 3 RBI. It was his 4th HR and is now hitting .333 for San Jose.

Nick Noonan went 4-6 with a triple and 2 RBI. He is now hitting .296 at San Jose.

Kevin Frandsen went 1-3 with a homer and 2 RBI last night. That was Frandsen's third homer of the year.

John Bowker went 2-4 with a homer and 3 RBI and is now hitting .308. He also has 16 walks so he might have learned to stop swinging at the first pitch.

Jesus Guzman had a 2-4 night and is now hitting .316. Ishikawa has to start looking over his shoulder.

Henry Sosa got his second win last night at AA to go 2-0 with a 2.57 ERA. He has a 20/9 strikeout to walk ratio.

Brian Bocock was demoted to Single A.
