From reports last night, the Red Sox are closing in on a deal for Mark Teixeira which would move Youkilis from first to third leaving Lowell as the odd man out. Lowell is coming off hip surgery and according to Theo Epstein, his rehab is going well. What would think about the Giants going after Lowell? Lowell is set to make $24 million over the next two years. Lowell is still a good defender and can still hit for power. Getting Lowell would move Sandoval to first to platoon with Ishikawa or Phelps if he makes the team out of Spring Training. The Giants most likely wouldn't have to give up too much for Lowell considering the Red Sox would have no use for him and maybe could find a window to dump Dave Roberts salary. Lowell comes at a risk but he is one year removed from finishing 5th in the MVP voting. Lowell would be a good bat to put in the cleanup spot or in the five hole of the order. I think the Giants should take a lot at how his rehab is going and keep in touch with Theo Epstein to se what it would take if the Sox did in fact get Teixeira.
