This might not seem like a big move but it is. The Giants have got to find a way to trade Dave Roberts. Roberts came to us in '07, one of Sabean's worst years in SF. That year he signed Zito to a record contract only to be THE biggest bust in MLB history and then he signed Dave Roberts to a three year deal only for him to be a major bust too. He also signed Rich Aurilia but he was actually of some value but definitely not the answer. Aurilia is gone thanks to free agency and now Roberts should be the next to go. He is due to make $6.5 million and that is just too much for a bench player. Roberts is blocking Nate Schierholtz who has proven that he is ready for the big leagues. Roberts is not an everyday player anymore and even if Fred Lewis is not ready to start the season because of his foot, Schierholtz should be the one starting in LF come Opening Day. Also, Lewis shouldn't be guaranteed the LF spot in the first place but that's for another time. Sabean and the Giants will have to eat some salary but they need to rid themselves of the log jam in the OF and clear roster space for more deserving players. Giants have capable men in the minors who can fill in in case the Giants get hit by the injury bug in the OF. The Giants did a great job after the season of disposing waste like Hennessey and Walker. The Giants need to continue to cleansing process. I am sure the Giants can find a suitor for Roberts at the right price. Sabean best be trying at the winter meetings to bite the bullet, eat some salary and rid themselves of this mistake. Astros, Orioles, Reds, Rockies, Yankees and Brewers might have slight interest.
