Giants optioned RHP Osiris Matos to Triple-A Fresno.
Matos had a 4.05 ERA in 13 1/3 innings since being called up on July 1. He has a chance to be a key part of San Francisco's pen going forward.

Giants designated RHP Sergio Romo for assignment.
The Giants have rushed so many borderline players to the majors that they're likely to have a 40-man roster crunch this winter. Romo will go through waivers now despite posting a decent 4.41 ERA and a fine 16/4 K/BB ratio in 16 1/3 innings during his first taste of the majors. His stuff is weak, but because of his track record, we imagine some team will claim him anyway.

Giants recalled RHP Billy Sadler from Triple-A Fresno.
Sadler had a 4.94 ERA in 23 2/3 innings with the Giants earlier this year. The team probably isn't viewing him as an upgrade from Osiris Matos, but it makes sense to get another long look at him before making a decision on whether to keep him on the 40-man roster over the winter.

Giants activated RHP Keiichi Yabu from the 15-day disabled list.
Yabu had been out since July 20 with a strained finger. He'll resume working in middle relief.
I will be pissed if we lose Romo to simply bring Sadler up again. Neither Sadler or Romo are special but I thought Romo would be a better 7th inning guy than Sadler. It will be good to get Yabu back. He has had a surprising year.
