Giants designate RHP Vinnie Chulk for assignment.
Probably a fortunate break for Chulk, who was being used as nothing more than a mop-up man of late. His stuff hasn't been quite the same since he missed the end of last year with Buerger's Disease, though it actually may have more to do with the shoulder problems he had at the beginning of this year. He'll likely eventually reemerge as a useful middle man.

Giants purchased the contract of RHP Sergio Romo from Double-A Connecticut.
The Giants' handling of their prospects is just as odd as ever. They never game Romo a midseason promotion before, even while he was typically older than his competition while dominating his circuits, but now they're perfectly willing to move him from Double-A to the majors even though he's never set foot in Triple-A. Romo had a 4.00 ERA in Connecticut's bullpen, but he had bounced back this month after a down May. He had a 30/7 K/BB ratio in 27 innings. His stuff has never matched his results, but he could be a useful middle reliever anyway.
Glad to hear Chulk is gone though I think he can be useful elsewhere. Chulk started this season off great posting an ERA of 1.93 in April. Then he posted a 3.52 ERA and has gradually gotten worse. Chulk is at 4.83 ERA on the year and needed to move on.

Romo is 25 and has a career minor league ERA of 2.45 and a .96 WHIP. He also has 250 SO's to just 50 BB's in 265 IP. Hopefully he can do better than Chulk and Walker.

I think the Tigers, Mets, Braves, Rangers, Marlins, Cards and Rays could take a look at him.
