Noah Lowry had an MRI on Monday after feeling a tingling sensation in his injured forearm.
Lowry had planned to throw off the mound on Monday for the first time since his surgery six weeks ago, but he wasn't ready. Even if the exam comes back favorable, he would seem to be at least a month away. The Giants originally believed he'd be coming off the DL right about now.
Giants might have to get used to the idea of not having Lowry all year. Hopefully this is nothing. Maybe he just hit his funny bone

Giants trainer Dave Groeschner hopes Omar Vizquel (knee) can begin playing in extended spring training games this week.
Vizquel still isn't running, so it's not a sure thing he'll see action. His return has been pushed back to early May.

An MRI on Noah Lowry's throwing arm revealed that his arm soreness was caused by muscle inflammation, not a complication from his March 8 surgery.
"In the grand scheme of things, this is a bump in the road. It was good news," Lowry said. The inflammation is only expected to set him back a couple days, and he still hopes to return at some point in May.
How in the hell is Vizquel supposed to play in games if he can't even run? Good news on Lowry.

Giants placed RHP Kevin Correia the 15-day disabled list with a left oblique strain.
Correia, who left his start Saturday in the first inning, could miss a month. Patrick Misch is up from Triple-A and figures to be the choice to take his rotation spot.

Dave Roberts, who had arthroscopic knee surgery two weeks ago, will begin walking without crutches Sunday.
Roberts will do flexing exercises regularly over the next few weeks. It's expected that he'll be sidelined until mid-June.
Hopefully Correia can get over his oblique injury unlike Lowry a couple of years ago. Good to see Misch was the man called up. Also, Molina will be out of today's game due to soreness in his legs. Holm has done a good job backing up Molina.

    Re: 2008 Injury Report

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Noah Lowry will be shut down for 3-4 weeks after experiencing "pins and needles" in his surgically repaired forearm.
"It could be three weeks, it could be longer," trainer Dave Groeschner said. "We need to shut him down until this thing is right. Otherwise, we are just spinning our wheels."
Looks like we might be without Lowry for the whole year. Is it a coincidence that the two Giants I sponsored for this site on baseball-reference.com (Lowry and Frandsen) are both hurt and possibly out for the year?

I say you jinxed it. jk.

I thought for sure that Lowry would be back. He was doing pretty well rehabbing. Until this came along. Hopefully it'll all work out for you guys.

Vizquel is expected back this weekend say the Retard and Durham could possibly land himself on the DL with hamstring problems.

Yeah I saw that. So it means that either Bocock or Burriss will be sent down, pending on whether Durham will get better or not.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Kevin Correia (oblique) is still 2-3 weeks from coming off the disabled list.
"With that injury, you really have to make sure it's completely gone before you get him back out there," manager Bruce Bochy said. "If it flares up again, you'll be starting over."
We could sure use him right now after Sanchez's last two starts.

    Re: 2008 Injury Report

Giants placed RHP Merkin Valdez on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 14, with a right elbow strain.
It's disgusting that the Giants didn't just do this in the first place. There was no reason at all to take a chance with Valdez's arm in his first year back from Tommy John surgery. However, he was allowed to pitch Monday after coming down with some soreness a few days earlier and turned in his worst outing of the season to date.

Giants purchased the contract of LHP Alex Hinshaw from Triple-A Fresno.
The 25-year-old Hinshaw will make his major league debut after allowing one run in 15 2/3 innings for Fresno. There's no real upside here, but it's worth giving him a look to see if his soft stuff can fool major league hitters.

Giants transferred infielder Kevin Frandsen from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
Frandsen is out for the year after tearing an Achilles' tendon during spring training.
Let's hope nothing is terribly serious with Valdez. Giants fans have waited so long for him to make it and he seems to have a niche in the bullpen now. Hinshaw has good numbers in AAA so we can only hope they translate well in the big leagues.

    It's about time regarding Frandsen.

Ortmeier was placed on the 15 day DL with a broken finger. Brian Horwitz was called up to replace him.

Lowry was placed on the 60 day DL to make room on the 40 man roster.

Correia tossed 3 1/3 shutout innings in his first rehab start. It will be good to get him back.

    Re: 2008 Injury Report

Manager Bruce Bochy said Saturday it might be a couple weeks before Merkin Valdez rejoins the Giants, as he'll need to make a few rehab appearances.
Valdez is on the DL with a right elbow strain and is only one year removed from Tommy John surgery. Any soreness could mean a setback, as the Giants should play it safe with him.
We really miss him but do not want him rushed. Take it easy but Walker setting up Wilson is ugly. Wilson's not that pretty himself.

    Re: 2008 Injury Report

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Kevin Correia (oblique) "is penciled in to return to the rotation June 15."
Because they won't need a fifth starter until June 10, the Giants will likely use Thursday's off day to skip Pat Misch's next turn, potentially giving Misch just one more start before Correia bumps him from the rotation.
Nice to know Misch won't be starting anymore. Giants are winless in games he starts.

So...what does that mean for Misch? Is he going to get demoted? Is he headed to the pen? What's gonna happen?

    Re: 2008 Injury Report

It all depends really on Valdez or if someone is traded. If Valdez is back sometime around there, Misch is sent back down. If someone is traded, Misch will likely go to the bullpen. I am hoping he gets demoted so he can work things out as a starter.
