TheStar.com | Sports | Jays should be leery of Giant proposal

First thing:
Last week, at the winter meetings in Nashville, Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi said he felt like he was under house arrest at the sprawling, self-enclosed Opryland Hotel. Giants GM Brian Sabean obviously believed he could take advantage of the Jays by offering to take all-star outfielder Rios off their hands to replace free-agent Barry Bonds for one of the Giants' better starting pitchers, letting them believe it's Lincecum. No matter which of their top three, it would not be a good Jays deal.
No, it wouldn't be a good deal for the Giants. The Jays need good pitching in that AL East if they want any chance to contend and their best pitchers are unreliable. The Giants offered Lincecum for Miguel Cabrera who ten times better than Rios. Why would they now trade for Rios straight up? Terrible deal for the Giants

The key to the Jays' issue is that the under-offenced Giants would rather give up their No.3 starter, Matt Cain, or No.4 in the rotation, Noah Lowry, for Rios, rather than the man identified by Baseball America as the Giants' No.1 prospect, the slight right-hander, Lincecum. The Giants are not letting Ricciardi know about that important distinction until the time is right. But, hey, ya gotta believe.
He's wrong about two things right here. First off, Cain was the #2 starter last season and is the ace of this staff and should be the Opening Day starter for '08. Secondly, the Giants made it very clear they wouldn't trade Cain for Rios and would rather trade Lincecum which the Giants are smart to do if they did it. This moron doesn't know what he is talking about.
