Re: Matt Morris to the Pirates?

Pirates acquired RHP Matt Morris from the Giants for OF Rajai Davis and a player to be named.
Haven't heard any word on money being exchanged but a simple salary dump here folks. Giants already have a crowded OF and this makes it more crowded. The Giants now have Bonds, Roberts, Winn, Lewis, Scheirholtz, and now Davis. Yay

He seems to have good numbers but we don't really need more OFers. We have Roberts and Winn for two more years and have guys like Lewis and Schierholtz. Schierholtz has power potential and could fill the LF void someday. This guys seems fast and talented but not a good fit right now for the Giants.

    One question to Pittsburgh....

This trade makes no sense for both parties involved if you ask me...
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

Salary dump for us, don't know what the **** the Pirates were thinking! Too bad we have to hand that money right over to Zito!

Re: Matt Morris to the Pirates?

Davis, 26, was ranked as Pittsburgh's 27th-best prospect entering this season by Baseball America. The 5-foot-11, 195-pounder was hitting .271 (13-for-48) with two doubles, two RBIs and five stolen bases in 24 games for the Pirates.

Pittsburgh recalled Davis from Triple-A Indianapolis on June 5, and he has made 12 starts in center field for the Pirates. The University of Connecticut at Avery Point product posted a .409 average (9-for-22) with two runs, two doubles and two stolen bases in his final 13 contests in a Pirates uniform.

Originally Pittsburgh's 38th-round selection in the 2001 First-Year Player Draft, Davis has stolen more than 40 bases in each of his last four full Minor League campaigns. The Norwich, Conn., native paced the Carolina League with 57 thefts for Class A Lynchburg in 2004, while sharing the Double-A Eastern League stolen-base title in 2005 with 43 for Altoona.

Prior to his recall to the Pirates this season, he hit .318 with 31 runs, 12 doubles, four triples, four home runs and 30 RBIs in 53 games for Indianapolis. Davis finished his Triple-A stint with a 21-game hitting streak
    .

Here's some info on our new guy. Seems like a fast SOB with good potential. Can't believe the Pirates are assuming all of Morris' money. What a dumb move for them and how sweet it is for us. Pat Misch or Ortiz could take over in the rotation.

If the Pirates are assuming all of Morris's money, I change my mind. Great job of freeing up space by the Giants here.

nope. I really think Morris can help the Pirates bridge a gap for the rest of this year and next. At the very least be their #5 next year. Pirates are NOT all that far from being a good team.

Re: Matt Morris to the Pirates?

Giants acquired RHP Stephen McFarland from the Pirates to complete the Matt Morris trade.
MacFarland, 21, had a 4.80 ERA and a 69/48 K/BB ratio in 65 2/3 innings for low Single-A Hickory. He has a quality fastball, but he's a long shot to make it to the majors.
Seems like just another warm body to fill a roster spot. He's got a long way to go if he wants to be a quality reliever.
