Philadelphia Daily News: "Burrell's representatives indicated yesterday that he would accept a trade to the Giants... In trade, the Giants might want the Phillies, who are looking for bullpen help, to take closer Armando Benitez, who comes with plenty of baggage: a $7.6 million salary for this season, the last on his contract; his bad knees, which limited him to 41 games this season; and a poor reputation as a teammate."
San Jose Mercury News (registration required): "Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Pat Burrell would waive his no-trade clause and pick up a first baseman's mitt to play for the Giants, his agent said Thursday. The Phillies are eager to unload a hefty portion of the $27 million Burrell is owed over the next two seasons and his no-trade clause was an impediment to a deal; the slugger had said he would only waive it to go to the New York Yankees or Boston Red Sox."
If the Phillies would actually take Benitez, which I doubt they would, then I would be ok with this deal. Burrell moving to first would keep him healthier and he has more upside than Feliz even though he had Feliz type numbers last year. Burrell has proven he has power but the thing is we need someone to hit behind him.
