    Arizona @ San Fran

SF: RHP Jason Schmidt (11-8, 3.50 ERA)
Schmidt pitched only 4 2/3 innings vs. the Rockies on Wednesday, giving up four hits and three runs and -- worst of all -- walking seven batters. The big blow was a three-run triple by Brad Hawpe.

ARI: RHP Edgar Gonzalez (2-3, 4.41 ERA)
Gonzalez had the best start of his Major League career Wednesday against the Padres at PETCO Park. The right-hander allowed just one run on six hits over seven innings. Gonzalez did not walk a batter and fanned three. With two starts left this year, Gonzalez is trying to pitch his way into contention for the rotation in 2007.

    Player to watch
Outfielder Steve Finley has struggled, but he had a solid road trip, hitting .316.

    • Tuesday: Giants (RHP Matt Morris, 10-15, 5.09) vs. Diamondbacks (RHP Brandon Webb, 16-7, 2.95), 7:15 p.m. PT
    • Wednesday: Giants (LHP Jonathan Sanchez, 3-0, 5.29) vs. Diamondbacks (RHP Claudio Vargas, 11-10, 4.86), 12:35 p.m. PT
An old fashioned battle for third place.

Giants lose 7-1 as Schmidt keeps struggling making the Giants decision easier not to retain his services. Durham on the other hand is making a case as he has homered yet again to give him a career high of 26.

Do me deceive me or did Matt Morris pitch a good game. 8 IP, 2 ER and no walks? Holy shit! Alou went 2-4 with a walkoff two run shot and raises his average to .303. That would be two years in a row for the Giants that Alou has hit above .300, something I never expected.

Sanchez looked good giving up just 2 ERs in 6 IP. Alou stole home and Alfonzo hit number 12 on the year in the Giants 6-3 loss.
