    Giants Padres @ San Fran

SF: RHP Matt Cain (11-9, 4.11 ERA)
The 21-year-old Cain cooled off the Cubs on four hits and no earned runs over 7 2/3 innings last Saturday in the Giants' 4-1 win. "This kid is special," commented Alou. Cain has now given up only one earned run over his last 28 innings and is now 3-0 with a no-decision over his last four outings.

SD: RHP Jake Peavy (8-13, 4.32 ERA)
There was hardly any room for the Padres ace to be better in his last start, striking out 14 and allowing just two hits against the Reds. He was still hitting 93 mph on the gun in the ninth inning of his complete game, reaching 114 pitches -- 77 of those strikes. The question mark in his next start will be the condition of the fourth toe on his left foot, which he hurt when he stubbed it on a piece of furniture in his home the night before his impressive last outing. X-rays were negative, but he's still in pain.

    Player to watch
Second baseman Ray Durham cracked two homers on Wednesday vs. the Reds, his seventh career multihomer game. He's healthy and stronger than he's been for years.

    • Saturday: Padres (LHP David Wells, 2-3, 4.58) at Giants (RHP Jason Schmidt, 11-8, 3.39), 1:05 p.m. PT
    • Sunday: Padres (RHP Woody Williams, 7-5, 3.91) at Giants (RHP Brad Hennessey, 5-4, 3.72), 5:05 p.m. PT
We have to have this series! The Giants have had the Padres number this year and let's hope it continues. Cain once again can outpitch Peavy and Schmidt will face Wells in which I feel very confident about since Wells didn't do all that well last year against the Giants. With the off day and playing at home, I say we should take 2 of 3 but let's hope for a sweep again.

Cain once again outpitches Jake Peavy and the Giants gain a game on the Pads. Cain has absolutley been untouchable his past five starts to help the Giants get back in the playoff hunt. Schmidt's on the mound today and he really needs a good start as he hasn't had one in a while.

Giants win in extras thanks to a Durham triple and another key pinch hit for Sweeney. Bonds hit #23 and Hillenbrand stays hot going 3-4. Hillenbrand has found a home hitting third. Schmidt pitched well but went a little too long giving up a 8th inning homerun. He did have 10 K's to 1 BB. The bullpen held it down and Stanton got the win. Gaining ground in both the West and WC

Giants lose the only game I thought they would because for some reason we cannot hit Woody Williams. Giants take 2 of 3 which is exactly what we needed and sit 2.5 games out of the WC lead. Padres have a tough week ahead with the Reds and Dodgers. Giants have the Rockies and Cards so the Giants have an easier week. Let's hope to stay with the Pads and pass them.
