Giants S.F. could plunder a pair of Pirates

Sean Casey is no fool. He will be a free agent this winter and might be on the move sooner if the Pirates decide to sell before the trade deadline. He has the highest batting average at China Basin among players with at least 80 at-bats. So, heck yeah, he would consider coming here if things do not work out in Pittsburgh.

"If I'm a free agent at the end of the year, I would definitely listen to coming out here. I'd listen to probably everybody," Casey said. That is not exactly the same as, "Oh yeah, I'm coming. Should I live South of Market or down the Peninsula?" But it is a start.

A better immediate fit for the Giants might be Craig Wilson, who has some right-handed pop, gets on base, has fallen out of favor in Pittsburgh and is quite available. He can play first base, both corner outfield spots and, in a pinch, can catch. The drawback is his $3.3 million salary.

Casey, who turns 32 on July 2, has no clue why he excels at a park that is death to so many other left-handed hitters.

"There's no rhyme or reason for it," he said. "I wish I had a good reason for you guys, but I really don't. I know I don't have too many home runs here. I think I've hit that brick wall four times. I enjoy the park. I think they did a great job with that. I don't know if it's the background or what."

Actually, Casey has no homers here.

"To tell you the truth," he said, "that's what makes it so impressive what (Barry) Bonds has done here. It really isn't a great park for left-handers."

Casey is too inury prone so its basically having the same thing as Niekro. Wilson could be a good one but his asking price is way too high.

    He's played in 151 games in 1999, 133 in 2000, 145 in 2001, 120 in 2002, 147 in 2003, 146 in 2004, 137 in 2005 and in 5 of those seasons he had over 500 AB's........I don't ever seeing Niekro doing this, so it's not the same.

Of course Niekro hasn't played as amny games so in that aspect yeah they are not the same. I was talking about their bodies wearing down. Casey has a bad back and Niekro has a bad everything it appears. Since Casey's back has started giving him problems, his production numbers have taken a mighty blow. What's the difference between two guys with health problems and little to no power? He is better than what we got now but what are we willing to give for a possible rent-a-player?

Yeah I hear you Reef, we don't want Casey it would be a huge mistake..........Wilson would be the guy, but the Pirates asking price is way to high right now........maybe at the deadline.

Its not a bad idea as Casey is the best option like I said, I just said that I wouldn't want him for a rent-a-player because we would have to give up something nice for him. There are guys like Tony Clark who are making a lot less and we wouldn't have to give much for him. Aubrey Huff isn't having that great of a year but could do better on a better team.

Yeah but we need Power and Casey is not the answer......I'd like us to go after Rockies 1b Ryan Shealy.

yeah casey wouldn't be a good idea, but i like wilson though, but why would the pirates want to get rid of him? if i'm not mistaking he's in his mid-late 20s and i thought him and jack wilson were part of the future?

They have Casey at first and Burnitz at Rightfield, Wilson is just a back-up their. He also turns 30 in november.

He's 30 years old, and will be a free agent after this season. While he can play Catcher, First, and the corner outfield spots, he doesn't play any of them well enough to nail down a starting role. The Pirates will get something for him, but right now they are inflating his price. Supposedly, the Cardinals were interested, and immediately turned down Wilson for Anthony Reyes. The Pirates need to get real if they want to get something for Wilson before the deadline passes.

Double-A Tulsa's Joe Koshansky reached base five times and hit his 16th and 17th homers on Monday.
Koshansky, who turned 24 last month, is hitting .323/.412/.606 in 226 at-bats. We don't like him quite as much as Ryan Shealy, but he's a similar prospect for a club that still appears to have no intention of making a change at first base over the next few years.
This might be a reason to get rid of Shealy?

Yeah there's no point of the Rockies keeping Shealy when Helton is going nowhere for sometime........And they have that guy you posted info on.............We'll see what Sabean does.
