Alou hits plateau: Outfielder Moises Alou, who suffered a severe right ankle sprain on May 5 at Philadelphia, was progressing rapidly initially, but over the weekend hit, as trainer Stan Conte put it, "a ceiling."
"How long he's going to be at this level, I can't tell you," said Conte. "He made great progress for two weeks, but now we have to slow it down. He's leveled off, which was predictable."
The original prognosis was for six weeks until full recovery, and it's now only 2 1/2 weeks since the injury.
Manager Felipe Alou said he hoped his son would be healthy enough to play against the Florida Marlins in Miami starting May 29, but Conte says "the ankle will tell us" the timetable.
"We're not going to back off on his program, but we just can't progress it yet to the next level," said the trainer.
