That's funny hollywood........so true......funny how easy the media switches gears eh ?

I am a backer of Brees, I admit to that, but I also know that a team can't just offer a long term high paying contract to a guy coming off major shoulder surgery either......that's just foolish nonsense......

Brees had a one on one with Dean Spanos this week......they discussed in private his future with the team, and why the Chargers hadn't made a bigger effort......Brees wouldn't go into details about the conversation this morning, but you could hear in his voice the disappointment. The Chargers have also taken off the table all incentives within the contract. This has basically pushed Brees out the perverbial door....... He spoke about Miami, Oakland & the Vikings...........
I hope he wins a ring, that guy deserves a better shake than this..... but that injury killed his chances here, and evidently made the decision very easy for the Charger front offices......

    ugh!!!

Brees was in Baton Rouge the other day visiting with Dr. Andrews again, Saban flew in to meet with him. I really think we're going after him and not Culpepper. Or at least I hope.

Trevor Hoffman flew to Cleveland to talk to the Indians' owner

two days later he resigned with the Padres

Nothing's official until Drew signs on somebody's dotted line.

liking or disliking Rivers really isn't the issue here in San Diego.....it's the simple fact that we all got behind Brees.....

Rivers should be solid right away....he's inheriting a pretty damn good team, and need only avoid the 'big mistake' while playing his first year.... but that will be the huge question...can he do that ?

Well, Carson Palmer wasn't good his first year starting, but he improved dramatically his second year. I predict the same thing for Rivers.

That's an unfair comparison to look at for Rivers, though.

Palmer was put into a much much much better situation than Rivers will be in his second year (barring some miracle FA signings in the next 2 years), and Palmer also has more base talent to begin with.

    I don't follow, McKain

The Chargers have just as good of an offense as the Bengals, if not better. And their defense is much better. (with the secondary being the only obvious weak link)

So, i ask you, how was Palmer put in a "much much better" situation than Rivers?

Furthermore, Rivers has been a part of this system for TWO years, vice the ONE that Palmer was in with the Bengals before being handed the starter's job.

The Chargers offense is not just as good as the Bengals. The running game is better than the Bengals', but the Bengals have a superior passing game and much better offensive line.

they have a better OL, true

their passing game, yeah, they have Chad Johnson

the Chargers still have a dominant offense.

Just because they get more yardage and points on the ground, the offense is still great.

You can argue that Palmer was put in a slightly better situation...that is up for debate.

But it's a bit much to insinuate that the situation is "much much better"

The Chargers have arguably the best running back in the game

the Chargers have arguably the best blocking full back in the game

the Chargers have arguably the best tight end in the game

the Chargers have a group of wide recievers who aren't superstars, but they are good in their own right.

To say that PR isn't being put in a good situation is just assinine.

I also didn't say he was being put in anything other than a good situation; I just said it wasn't nearly as good as Palmer's passing game was.

The Bengals have arguably one of the top five pass-blocking fullbacks in the game.
The Bengals have arguably the best pass-blocking offensive line in the game.
The Bengals have arguably the best wide receiver in the game.
The Bengals have arguably one of the best number two wideouts in the game.
The Bengals have arguably the best pass-blocking offensive line in the game.
The Bengals have arguably the deepest group of wide receivers in the game.

The Chargers don't match up with that on a pure passing offense level.

Both situations are good. Carson Palmer's was a little bit better but Rivers' situation is comparable.
