Ummmm yeah okay, I guess you make a good point, for a change...

I like Jay, he's the strongest Notre Dame supporter next to my sister. I'm glad to have another avid college football fan in the house.
Hey HWood, will you start a "Should the Chargers fire Norv Turner" poll here?
No point since we all know what the unanimous result would be.
Well, Rockiesfan_H and Bowzer may come in and vote no.
But at some point, don't the players have to come together and say "screw the coaching staff, let's do what we do"? They don't have to play for Turner, they have to play for themselves, their teammates and the fans.
That's true to an extent, but they don't make or call their own plays.
Rivers can't call audibles ? Really......?? Link please
There's a huge difference between changing the play to one of two or three pre-decided audibles in your head coach's playbook and having your own playbook and completely disregarding the coach's.
This says nothing about having an entire playbook to deal with does it ?Quote:
call their own plays
edit : and when was the last time you saw Rivers take over the offense and change play when the D stacked 8 on the line, instead of running LT up the gut for a 2yard loss ?
When a QB calls an audible he's changing the play to one of two or three predetermined audibles.
That's a far cry from completely disregarding the inept head coach and calling your own plays all together.
It's easy to suggest the players take over and do their own thing but it's not that easy.
Unless your talking about Peyton Manning. He's the puppet master, Dungees the puppet.
Excuse me HWood, but the vast majority of this teams offensive issues stem from a lack of creativity especially on 1st down calls.........If Rivers comes to the line and reads the defense like he should be, seeing 8 stacking the line, and knowing that douchbag Turner has called for another 1&10 run up the gut, he could call one of those 3 predetermined plays and make a huge difference in how this offense functions..........say a play action bringing everyone in, then tossing over the top to a now depleted 2ndary, or maybe a quick slant pattern to your ProBowl TE that nobody can cover as it is ......you know......simple shit like that
And it's more than just 3 plays, but I'll use that # since it's really irrelevant in this discussion........
It's no different with Peyton Manning
The only difference between Peyton and your average QB when it comes to audibles is he's better at reading a defense to know which of the predetermined plays to switch to and that he goes into convulsions before every play.
Peyton himself said 90 percent of his dancing around before the snap is pure bullshit for the sake of trying to confuse people.
This is not a black and white issue.
I'm in no way trying to insinuate that the players do not bare any of the blame, nor am I trying to argue that there's absolutely nothing they can do to make things better.
But the call was made that they can completely disregard the head coach and completely take over the game calling themselves.....which is not the case.
It's still Norv's playbook, it's still Norv's decision, and it's still Norv's lack of ability to keep his players in line and motivated.
Hwood I dont think anyone was bringing race into it.
