they're saying on the UT forum that it could be Loretta+Aki for Wells and Mirribelli (their back up catcher)
and they're also saying that the trade could be followed by signing Nomar.
I have nothing other than posts on another message forum to back this up, however. (which is why I haven't posted it in the transactions/rumor forum)
I don't think I like either trade.

the article i read about the Well Mirrabelli for loretta
says that is what is on the table and the Sox are expected to ask for someone else.
The writer than says Aki. But that is stipulation on his part. It would be stupid tog ive up aki for that. With relivers so High in demand.
the last rumor I heard before this one came out was McAnulty for Wells straight up.
How did the price tag on our end suddenly go up?

I dunno, but if I were the Red Sox I would have jumped on the Wells/Douglas M. for Loretta deal ASAP...that's a steal IMHO.

Wells, meanwhile, may get his wish to be traded back to San Diego, where he left after the 2004 season to sign a two-year deal with the Sox. The Padres, according to an industry source with direct knowledge of the negotiations, are now offering second baseman Mark Loretta to the Red Sox and are asking for Wells and catcher Doug Mirabelli, who could get a chance to play every day for the Padres. The Padres have previously offered a variety of players, including pitcher Woody Williams, outfielder Dave Roberts, and reliever Akinori Otsuka, but now are apparently willing to move Loretta, 34, who in 2004 had a career year, batting .335 with 16 home runs and 76 RBIs, all personal bests.
Last season, Loretta underwent surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb and appeared in just 105 games, batting .280 with three home runs and 38 RBIs. The Padres are willing to move him, the source said, because they are attempting to sign free agent Nomar Garciaparra to play second base. Loretta would come relatively cheaply -- he is due to be paid $3 million in 2006 in the last year of his Padres deal -- but the Sox are expected to ask for another player, possibly Otsuka, if Mirabelli is part of the deal.
This deal sucks.......... it's a horrible HORRIBLE deal for us........... Boston would be bending us over and cocking us like a shotgun..........this sucks !!! Dave Roberts for Wells was the ONLY decent deal that has been proposed.........IMO
Well, I don't know about that.Dave Roberts for Wells was the ONLY decent deal that has been proposed.........IMO

If you get Mirabelli, you might as well get Wakefield as well. Varitek can't catch him.

The Herald (Boston, warning, Boston Media, morons, etc.) is reporting that a deal for Loretta (Mirabelli, alpha and omega for the players in the deal, just Mirabelli in return) is almost done.
I can't imagine that. Wells has to be going too, or a Sox prospect, or something like Wells/Mirabelli for Loretta/Roberts, or something.

Then out of fairness to the others you will be Slagathor.
I hear now it's just Loretta for Mirabelli in order to free up some $$$ to help sign Hoffy and maybe Nomar if this deal happens.........or just Nomar if Hoffy wont come back
1090 is saying that it's a done deal.......just awaiting confirmation.........Loretta for Mirabelli...........ugh
Well, maybe now we can up the ante on Trevor!... in order to free up some $$$ to help sign Hoffy ...
Only cost us Loretta for a back up catcher, no biggie....
