    "State of the Padres" recap

I went to the "state of the Padres" thing today at PetCo and here are the highlights.

    - Hoopla over resigning Giles

    - Mentioned several times that they want Trevor back, but gave no indication that there's any new info

    - Someone asked what they're going to do about catcher. Towers said they're "extremely confident" in Olivo, but are looking into other veterans. Seemed very cautious not to include Ramon Hernandez.

    - Said they're in talks with a trade regarding a "Point Loma resident"

    - Said the 411 point of the wall will probably be moved in to 401. Someone asked why and Alderson replied, kind've jokingly, "You want Giles to play here?"

    - Blum spoke about his world series experience.

    - Bochy shaved his mustache

    - Towers said there could be other moves, some involving current starters.

    - Alderson bragged about us keeping ticket prices the same while LA raised theirs by 30 percent.

    - Some girl asked if we're getting Ausmus cuz she'd "love to see him play" Towers said it's between us and Houston. Added that Ausmus said he'd go back to Houston if Clemens does.

    - Grady Fuson spoke on money ball and his role on the team. Alderson stated that Brian Giles is the best "moneyball" player in the majors

    - They, pretty much collectively, said that they're proud of winning the division, but at the same time aren't satisified with 82-80. Also said they have zero intentions of "rebuilding" but want to "reload"

    - Fireworks

Moving in the fence is pretty weak.

So do you think the fences should be moved in or not?

Calling them wimps for moving them in suggests you don't, scoffing at them for not thinking when they initially designed it suggests you do.

Me, I don't mind getting a few more home runs out of our meak offense. (and it starts again with PFF and me)

fences moving in is pathetic.......... it's not addressing the real issue, which as we've debated to it's death was the lack of true power hitting on our team........ also if you're planning on building a team based around speed then why cut your legs off by moving the fences in.........it's just insane.........I'm starting to wonder if the right hand knows what the left hand is doing anymore..........

when asked why they're moving the fences in, Sandy responded, almost jokingly

"you want Giles to play here?"

HOW WEAK ! Giles doesn't need the fences moved in.......he needs someone protecting him in the line up so he doesn't draw 150 walks this year.........give him a reason to swing the bat........give a pitcher a reason to throw a strike to him........good god........have people just completely lost their minds ?
