Well, Sportsline.com is saying Aki for Cameron.

The Padres reportedly have an eye on Mike Cameron of the Mets with reliever Akinori Otsuka among the possible players who could head to New York, says the New York Daily News.

I'm not saying he's the next coming.....but what you said is he'll never be a starter.........I think you're dead wrong
Anything you get from Johnson is a bonus anyway, didn't you only give up Carlos Hernandez to get him?

I just don't think that Ben Johnson can be compared to Jason Bay at this point, he's done nothing to make me believe that he will be a major league starting outfielder to this point.

The simple point was that Bay was an unknown quantity........now he's a starting OFer and pretty damn good on a team that isn't............ You casting judgement on a player that hasn't gotten a chance to play regularly isn't very wise.......for all we know he could be better than Bay.......... point is we don't know yet.....and Johnson has better speed, arm, range we just don't know if he can hit at the MLB level.....just like we didn't know if Bay could........ the comparison is for the unknown quantity......... lol ....

Rob Stratton could be better than Bay. We'll never know, because he'll never get a chance. You can insert any player that hasn't got a shot into that argument, that if they got a shot, they could be a great player in the majors.

Fact is, Johnson hasn't been a top 10 spect since '01. I just don't feel he's a great bet to suceed as a starting major league outfielder.

Somebody on the other forum with one of those "insider" sites you have to pay for is saying that the Cameron deal is all but iminent now, but it doesn't specify whether it's for Nady or Aki. Although it does allude to the Mets' middle relief needs.

    Can anyone confirm this?

He said it was ESPN insider

The Red Sox are believed to be on the lookout for a veteran backup catcher and may have set their sights on reacquiring Doug Mirabelli, according to a National League scout.

The Sox traded Mirabelli to the San Diego Padres for second baseman Loretta on Dec. 7. With John Flaherty opting to retire last week and Ken Huckaby sidelined all spring with an inflamed left knee, Josh Bard is the only viable candidate right now to back up Jason Varitek.

Depends on who they trade him for.

That said, I wouldn't want to make the trade. Piazza's not going to start 140 games and I don't want Ross to be the other option.

I couldn't agree with you more, and from what I've seen so far in Spring Training (I know its just spring)......Mirabelli could be a very very good everyday guy for us.....
