Re: craig kimbrel and bossman jr to the padres...
The Padres basically traded Maybin (28) for Upton (30)... push at best, I'd think.
Then you figure a salary dump in Quentin, their top pitching prospect, a switch-hitting good OF prospect, and a sandwich first/second round pick... for a closer. Which, he's very, very good... but that's a lot to give for a closer.
I'm rooting for the Pads, I hope it works out for them. I just... seems like a lot.
Re: craig kimbrel and bossman jr to the padres...
He's not just a closer, he's arguably the best closer in baseball. He'd likely be a 10-10-10 in OOTP terms.
It helps that I'm not too high on Wisler.
Re: craig kimbrel and bossman jr to the padres...
Retrospectively we'd probably had been better off giving Street an extension, but Preller walked into that already being done.
Benoit is 38 so now we don't have to worry about the back end of the bullpen for awhile.

Unless Kimbrel suffers a catastrophic OOTP talent loss
Re: craig kimbrel and bossman jr to the padres...
I'm also wondering if this is a play to convince Justin to stay.

Wisler could suffer the same :cosbycmonson:

We save 48 mill in 2016-2017. That's exciting.
Re: craig kimbrel and bossman jr to the padres...
I don't know much about the Padres prospects, but I think this move was kind of silly from the SD perspective. This deal would've been on the table in July, and you also could've gone after Papelbon who'd have cost way less. You took on a contract that could prevent you from making any more moves in Upton. Yes, Kimbrel's a stud, but even the best closer is only worth like 2-3 wins.
Could've just seen what you had. Now, if Kemp gets hurt and things sorta fall apart, you're locked into paying Upton's garbage ass for three years.

Papelbon isn't half as good as Kimbrel.
I like the all in attitude.
And if Kemp gets hurt their ability to win isn't any worse now than it would have been without this deal.
Re: craig kimbrel and bossman jr to the padres...
All in for a spectacular crash.
Re: craig kimbrel and bossman jr to the padres...
That's possible, but it's also possible they don't crash.
Meanwhile I don't have to worry about who's going to close after Benoit is gone.

Unless his arm falls off.
