Where are you hearing this?
And we do need a lead off guy, preferably a shortstop.

Saw it on a bleacherreport article.. I doubt its something that the Orioles are all that interested in, but would be awesome.
Re: Padres 2014/15 offseason thread
I was thinking about the rest of this off-season and the possibilities we have. Couldn't help but draw up a couple more deals in my mind to round up our off-season.
-Trade Carlos Quentin to the Marlins for Dan Haren - Haren wants to play in socal, Marlins could use a corner OF.
-Trade Wil Myers and prospects to Phillies for Cole Hamels - This one is a no brainer for me... maybe its just me. I'm not crazy high on Wil Myers, especially playing center field in Petco.
-Sign Takashi Toritani - I'm just not overly excited about Amarista and Barmes at SS...
Our line up could look something like...
1. Takashi Toritani - SS L
2. Cameron Maybin/Will Venable - CF
3. Matt Kemp - RF R
4. Justin Upton - LF R
5. Derek Norris - C R
6. Yonder Alonso - 1B L
7. Jedd Gyorko - 2B R
8. Willie Middlebrook 3B R
Our rotation could look something like..
1. Cole Hamels LHP
2. Tyson Ross RHP
3. Andrew Cashner RHP
4. Ian Kennedy RHP
5. Dan Haren RHP
Re: Padres 2014/15 offseason thread
Also hearing Big game James Shields being linked to us... somewhere in the ballpark of 5 for 100 mil.. not excited about that at all.
Re: Padres 2014/15 offseason thread
No on Shields.
I don't think Hamels is as much of a no brainer if Myers is involved but I wouldn't hate that.
Re: Padres 2014/15 offseason thread
Now hearing Hamels and Shields a "remote possibility" at this point. And that our opening day roster could very well be set at this point. There is going to be some interesting OF play this year, and who leads off? Amarista?
With the rotation headline by Cashner, Ross, Kennedy and whoever wins the 4 & 5 between Morrow, Erlin, and Despaigne.
Re: Padres 2014/15 offseason thread
I heard Bud hinted Myers may lead off.

Career .320 obp and strikes out a lot. We sure we don't have any better options? Like maybe bring back everth if he hasn't signed yet?

Myers played injured last year and was a rookie the year prior. I don't think his overall MLB numbers are truly indicative of his capabilities.
He had a .389 OBP in the minors and .354 his healthy ROY season. Hopefully that translates like that to us..

Let's hope his minor league numbers translate. I almost feel he would be better off in the 2 hole.
I'm still hopeful for Tortani

Don't get me wrong, with the current roster I'd likely bat Norris #1, I just don't think it's fair to judge Myers on his MLB numbers at this juncture.
There's a reason he's been a hot trade commodity.
Re: Padres 2014/15 offseason thread
Jose Valverde minor league deal.. Yikes.
Re: Padres 2014/15 offseason thread
Minor league deal. Whatever.
Re: Padres 2014/15 offseason thread
Hearing Phillies want two premium talent in return for Hamels. Rangers now in with Padres, Red Sox, and Cardinals.
Phillies want Austin Hedges and Wil Myers
