Padres acquire Randa for Germano and Ismael Valdez..

...well, indirectly. But I figure stating we traded Valdez for him is easier to swallow than Travis Chick.

I guess there's a price you have to pay, however, if you're in a pennant race and desperate for offense. At least this shows that management is indeed trying to keep us in it.

    Now let's get another arm.

I say congratulations on getting a good bat and a very solid defender. he will definitely help your chances in winning. He makes ALL the routine plays and seems to be right in the thick of things that become big. You guys traded away some potential future pitchers, but you are looking for this to be the big season. I say good trade for both teams!

just to clarify my thread title to those unaware

Last season we traded Ismael Valdez to the Marlins for minor league pitcher Travis Chick

Yesterday we traded minor league pitchers Justin Germano and Travis Chick to Cincy for Joe Randa

So, indirectly, we traded Justin Germano and Ismael Valdez for Joe Randa

    Heh.

Don't discount how big Ismael Valdes would've been down the stretch again, I always have to set that straight.

Randa is a solid third baseman, but in reality, I don't like this deal. Too much for this guy. Chick immediately becomes the Reds #2 pitching spect, and Germano will probably be a servicable 5th starter/middle reliever by next month.

It's not that much of an upgrade, even with Burroughs struggling.

No, not really. Ismael was garbage. I'll never get over people who continously complained that we dumped him last year. People pining over Ismael's loss makes me think of that Family Guy episode where Peter becomes president and one of the perks they gave them was some really ugly girl to stand next to Meg all day to make her look good by comparrison, in that Ismael Valdez looked good last year in comparrison to the garbage that replaced him.

And don't let his W-L record fool you, Valdez had some of the best run support i've ever seen near the beginning of the season last year, and then that was finally starting to catch up with him as the year went on. His starts were getting worse and worse and finally Towers dumped him off on the Marlins. They then proceeded to use an enterage of crap to take his place who proceeded to not get one win for the rest of the season. (one of which was Justin Germano)

Trading Ismael Valdez was not a mistake. The mistake was not finding a better replacement.

I'm wondering about Randa's production on the road, since Cincy's ballpark is equivalent to a tee ball yard.

No matter what way you look at it.........Randa is an upgrade at 3rd for us......he still has to perform, but at least he's shown that he can reach the seats, and bang a ball off the wall occasionally.......He's a true 3bag, with a good solid bat, and from the Rt. side of the plate shouldn't have the Petco blues.....the left field wall isn't very far away, and I expect to see him put a few into the WM Supply building. This was a good deal for us.

And for the record.......Hollywood is on the money about Valdez......complete garbage, great move dumping him, terrible move not upgrading at that point, and the main reason we missed the post season last year .....IMO

I agree with Witlon.. Chick and Germano is WAY too much for Randa.

I would've rather throw E5 back at 3rd (Nevin) than giving up Chick in this deal.. but whats done is done.
    Nobody lookin out for nobody
Maybe we should try and help somebody or be somebody
Instead of being somebody that makes the news
So everybody can tweet about it
And then they start to R.I.P. about it
And four weeks later nobody even speaks about it.
