Love this move......he really seems to be able to run a team and relate to the players........I for one am willing to give him a mulligan for the two seasons that this team was devastated by injuries and no bench or farm system to pull from for help....that's really not something he can do much about.

Towers took a lot of huge gambles with his 2008 moves that most of which didn't pay off. (Wolf, Edmonds, Prior...)

Then last year the divorce happened.

    First I agree

But both seasons this team was ravaged by injuries, and didn't have the bench or farm to fall back on. Injuries are not always excuses, there is a point when even the best teams can't handle the sheer volume of them. Last year they were .500 prior to the rash, over .500 after, and have been simply the best team in the NL since July 28th last year when they got healthy and made some moves to fix other issues ( like Peavy )

Please don't spin the Peavy trade as anything other than the salary dump it was.

Even if it does work out for us in the end it doesn't mean they were making the trade because they thought their Cy Young pitcher was somehow a detriment to the team's potential success.

It's not spin......fact is we got something in return that panned out while saving a shitload......facts aren't spin....that's already got a thread......the point was simple.......they got healthy and replaced other pieces (like Peavy) that still weren't able to go with pieces that could.....I was simply using Peavy as the example.....don't get all crazy

None of that says anything about the intent of the trade. Do you seriously think they would have traded Jake if Moores wasn't trying to slash payroll?

if it works out for us, and so far it is, we got lucky.

That's not to say credit isn't deserved for finding a good trade, though.

You are crossing up threads.....Why ? This isn't about the trade of Jake Peavy, that was an example......it's about trading pieces that aren't able to play for those that can, and getting healthy....and once that happened this team STARTED WINNING AGAIN........

I'm crossing up threads? With what? The other Bud Black thread that turned into a discussion on the Peavy trade?

But, if it makes you happy, I'll make the same post in a more appropriate thread.
