So when you deal a former Cy Young and rather popular player for a somewhat unheralded package of prospects, you're disappointed. Well maybe you don't have to be that down,

CHICAGO -- Jake Peavy is frustrated that he can't seem to get healthy enough to pitch for the Chicago White Sox.



The right-hander was acquired from San Diego at the July 31 trade deadline. He has been on the disabled list since June 13 with a strained tendon in his right ankle and was struck on his pitching elbow during a minor league rehab assignment, leading to more problems.
Peavy says he wants to help the team and hopes to play catch Friday to see how he's feeling.


The 2007 NL Cy Young Award winner has made four rehab starts with Triple-A Charlotte, going 1-1 with a 2.93 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 15 1/3 innings.


Peavy made his remarks before the White Sox played the Cubs in a makeup game on Thursday.

So, for some, we though, wow, incredible move by the white sox. Dicy, but interesting nonetheless. Now, Clayton Richard is actually 4-1 for the padres, albeit not the most amazing 4-1 ever, but that's 4 wins that the white sox don't have (and seemingly haven't had since making all these moves over a month ago). It's not to say Peavy doesn't rebound in 2010, but at least Richard has been capable enough that you have at least he and Latos for next season.

I was not happy at all that Peavy was traded. He could shut down any division foe on any given start even against Webb, Haren, Cain, even though he saved his best against LA. Yes, Richard is capable enough for next season but he's not in for the long term if he keeps giving up 6 earned runs now and then.

Richards wasn't the centerpiece of the trade, Poreda was.

I'm still not pleased with the trade, but I'll maintain an open mind until I see how Poreda performs.

I do want Richards to at least be good, though, or else it's just a one for one swap if Poreda is any good.

I do remember not being overly impressed with Poreda's scouting report the first time the trade was rumored.

As with almost any trade with a talent like Peavy, rarely is the player ever traded at peak value, thus peak return coming back for him. So a trade will always look a bit disappointing when you consider what could have been the haul. The timing of this deal couldn't have been much worse though (in getting a big return for Jake Peavy.)

Tom Hanson was never in the mix with Peavy on the DL.....with Peavy healthy he was a must.....I find it interesting that some would think Peavy's value being traded while on the DL is the same as when he's healthy........or is reality just not important ?

And who has won more and pitched in more games since the trade Richard or Peavy ? Also IIRC Richard wasn't the key piece in that deal right ???

No it's not......and getting Aaron Poreda, Clayton Richard, Adam Russell and Dexter Carter (who could be the diamond in this deal only time will tell) for a guy on the DL who still isn't "right" is pretty frigg'n good......

Looks more like a perfect excuse to dump his contract ASAP. If they truly cared about getting equal value back, they could have, you know, not traded him while he was on the DL.

And who has won more and pitched in more games since the trade Richard or Peavy ?

and Brett ****ing Tomko has also pitched in and won more games than Peavy. He even put up a 2.95 ERA for Oakland last year in the same stretch of the dawn of the Clayton Richard era in San Diego. That doesn't make Bombko nor Richard better than Peavy.

Don't sell him short. While not the grand project with a capital P that Poreda is, Richard was definitely a must have in the deal for the purpose you listed.

That doesn't make him the centerpiece of the trade. It only makes him the most ready of the 4.
