Another Worrell in a Padres unifrom. I have no idea if he is related to Tim but every Worrell in MLB has been so far.The Padres will get Mark Worrell and a player to be named from the Cardinals for Khalil Greene, according to MLB.com.
Worrell deserves a chance to make it as a middle reliever or setup man and will probably have some success at Petco. Still, unless the second player is better than he is, this will go down as quite a deal for the Cardinals.
Worrell will have a Cla Meredith like season in San Diego and Cardinal fans will wonder why they traded him, truth is he never got a real chance and he's quite talented

I'm hoping the ptbnl is a kid named Salas who was their AA closer last year......seems to have some pretty damn good stuff and a helluva K/bb ratio
You could use Worrell as a pinch hitter. lol IIRC he hit a home run in his first at bat as a Cardinal.
Video of Mark Worrell. WOW what an ugly delivery!
No wonder he's had success vs. hitters.......he looks like he's stepping toward the dugout......
then again I could careless where he steps so long as he gets guys out.....lol
The Padres have until April 1st to select the PTBL.Mark Worrell, the former Cardinals' farmhand shipped to San Diego in the Khalil Greene trade, will have season-ending elbow surgery, the Padres announced.
Not too bad.Padres acquired RHP Luke Gregerson from the Cardinals to complete the Khalil Greene trade.
It would have gone down as a very unimpressive trade for the Padres even if Mark Worrell, the other player acquired, didn't blow out his elbow. Gregerson, like Worrell, has closed in the minors. He had a 3.35 ERA and a 78/26 K/BB ratio in 75 1/3 innings for Double-A Springfield last season. With an average fastball and a plus slider, he could be an adequate middle reliever in the majors.
Gregerson is a college grad pitcher that turns 25 in May. He has consistently been old for the level at which he pitched. He lost his closing job at Springfield last season to Fernando Salas and has control issues. He has upside, but I on't know what his chances of reaching it are.
